What is PBIS?
“PBIS” is short for Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports. PBIS is an evidence-based, data-driven framework proven to reduce disciplinary incidents, increase a school’s sense of safety and support improved academic outcomes. The premise of PBIS is that continual teaching, combined with acknowledgement or feedback of positive student behavior will reduce unnecessary discipline and promote a climate of greater productivity, safety, and learning.
The Panther Way
At La Paz Middle School one method of implementation of PBIS is our Panther Way. The Panther Way is the behavioral expectation at La Paz Middle School and places emphasis on :
-Respect
-Responsibility

Panther Bucks
Panther Bucks can be earned by our students by displaying positive behaviors that align with the core value of the Panther Way. These Panther Bucks can be used by our students at the Panther Store, to purchase shirts, water bottles, pen, and even to attend special field trips. Students may earn Panther Bucks from any faculty and staff member from La Paz. The Panther Store is open every Friday during Lunch.
Check-In Check-Out “ARISE”
The goal here at La Paz Middle School is to create an inclusive and welcoming environment which values, recognize the worth of each student on our campus. To reach this goal we provide additional support for students who may need it.
Check-In Check-Out, also called “ARISE” is that program. Students involved in this program will check in with a staff member or “Mentor” in the morning and after school. At Check-In, they receive an ARISE point card allowing them to receive points for being a safe, respectful, and responsible citizen of our school as well as any material they may need to have a successful day. The Mentor and the student talk together, setting a goal for the student to have a positive day. As they go through the day, they will check in with each teacher to receive feedback. At the end of the day, they check out with a staff member who totals the points and discusses how the day went with the student. They may also receive a prize for reaching the day’s goal. Consistent achievement of their goal will result in bigger prizes distributed using our “ARISE Bucks.”
La Paz Middle School’s goal is to only have a student in this program for 6-weeks.
